STANDARD Chartered Bank Zambia has held the first-ever global relay, the Belt and Road initiative, says head of corporate affairs, Christine Matambo.
Matambo said that the relay aimed to highlight the bank’s continued commitment to Belt and Road, and the positive impact of the initiative to communities and businesses globally.
In a statement made available to the Sun sport, Matambo said that the relay was led by eight staff athletes from the bank, selected from its diverse footprint in Asia, Africa, the Middle East, and Europe and the Americas.
The athletes got to participate in running events across 44 Belt and Road markets within a 90-day period.
Matambo said that Zambia was one of the countries to host such kind of a relay.
She said the Zambia leg of the Belt and Road Relay was graced by the Minister of Sport and Youth Development Moses Mawere, and by the Chinese Ambassador to Zambia Li Jie Bank clients, employees and media joined the 8 Belt and Road athletes for the 10km run at the Showgrounds Polo Field.
It kicked off from Hong Kong on February 17 in conjunction with the Standard Chartered Hong Kong Marathon with over 74,000 runners, and will end in China on 11th May after the Belt and Road Forum.
