Chibolya School in sports kit SOS

ABRAHAM BANDA writes

A TEACHER at Shining Star community school of Lusaka’s Chibolya compound has appealed to relevant authorities and well-wishers to donate sports facilities to the learning institution.
Martha Ng’uni expressed concern over the pathetic state of the school pitch which could cause injuries to the youths when playing games.
“Our appeal is to the relevant authorities to come on board and help us with sporting facilities. The state of the Kanyama Central pitch is very bad that some pupils find it difficult to use it,
“They fear of sustaining injuries if the use it. As you can see there are rocks on its surface, and sometimes we do not have goal posts,” said Ng’uni
Ng’uni said that apart from the pitch, the school did not have sportswear, balls, cones, and a lot of equipment that were required.
“Sports activities prevent youths from engaging themselves in illicit activities. Therefore, we wish to make our earnest appeal to authorities and many well-wishers out there to help us with sports facilities that will keep our youths busy and push them out of bars and other unwanted places.” she said.
The school which was started by the Luyando Foundation Zambia only enrolled vulnerable and less privileged children in the society.
Meanwhile of captain of Luyando girls’ under-17 football club Evelyn Susan Katongo, has advised her fellow youths to join sports and avoid illicit activities.
Katongo said this on Saturday shortly after winning a match between the Olympic Queens and her team at Kanyama Central grounds which they won 5-0.
“We as female youths should join sports so that we avoid finding ourselves in illicit activities such as beer drinking, prostitution as well as stealing,
“We are the leaders of tomorrow, hence we should try by all means to avoid activities which may disturb our growth,” she said
Luyando girls’ football club is in the women’s league of the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) calendar of 2019 season.
