STANDARD Chartered Bank has invested over K200, 000 to empower vulnerable women in Lusaka’s Bauleni compound through decent housing.

This has been done in partnership with Habitat for Humanity Zambia.

Standard Chartered Bank Zambia chief executive officer, Herman Kasekende, said the Bauleni community, the institutions’ commitment to Zambia extended beyond business and the economy.

Mr Kasekende said the bank wanted to extend its support to the Zambian communities.

He was speaking at the Women’s Build event in Lusaka’s Bauleni compound recently.

“Our commitment to Zambia extends beyond business and the economy – we are proud as a Bank to support Zambian communities. That is why today we are delighted to empower women in Bauleni with decent shelter through our Women’s build partnership with Habitat for Humanity,” Mr Kasekende said.

Mr. Kasekende observed that decent housing had continued to pose a huge challenge for many Zambians, with female-headed households being particularly affected.

He said supporting the Women’s Build formed part of Standard Chartered Bank’s activities to commemorate International women’s month.

He said, “we have partnered with Habitat for Humanity and Lafarge among others to empower eight women in 2019 to give the gift of decent shelter.

“This so that vulnerable Zambian women can raise their families in decent housing and be empowered economically through ownership of an asset. And when you empower a woman, you empower an entire generation.”

The event was graced by the First Lady, Esther Lungu and Lusaka Central Member of Parliament, Margaret Mwanakatwe was also in attendance.
