Solwezi Council clarifies market sale claims

Solwezi Municipal Council has clarified that the district’s main market has not been sold but merely being undergoing renovation.

Council assistant public relations manager, Esther Chirwa, said in a statement that the removal of people from the market is intended to pave way for construction of befitting structures at the site.

People recently expressed outrage at the decision to removal traders from the main market and accused the council of selling the premises.

“The correct position is that the council has a short term plan of improving all markets, to benefiting structures in the CBD with a help of the ministry of Local government”, she said.
