ZAMBIA’S outgoing national soccer trainer Sven Vandenbroek’s was given enough time to prove his worth, says Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) General Secretary Adrian Kashala
Kashala has since described as ‘time wasters’ those suggesting that Sven was not given enough time to deliver.
Reacting to soccer fans and other football lovers following the decision by FAZ not to renew Sven’s contract Kashala wondered why people were criticizing the decision when they were the ones who called for his dismissal.
“The contract signed between Vandenbroek and FAZ was so specific. His role was to qualify us to the Africa Cup of Nations which he has failed,” Kashala said.
Kashala further said FAZ did not fire Vandenbroek, adding that it was the contract that had come to an end.
“Our decision is not to renew it is because we have not qualified as agreed in the contract. It was a very specific contract. Zambians are just not honest and we do not want to be drawn in that discussion,
“We are not going to renew his contract! Vandenbroek contract comes to an end in March this year, period “he said
Kashala said as an association FAZ would continue to pursue the enhancement of football development by recognizing and promoting young talent and building football administration across Zambia.
Vandenbroek’s last assignment as Zambia national team coach will be the AFCON 2019 Group K game, between Zambia and Namibia to be played on March 23.
FAZ has since appointed Aggrey Chiyangi as the 1st Assistant Coach and Mr Numba Mumamba as second assistant coach to Vandenbroek who took over from Wedson Nyirenda in July 2018 with a specific assignment to qualify the Zambia national team to AFCON.
A number of soccer analysts have expressed mixed feelings on the decision by FAZ with some saying Vandenbroek needed more time to deliver.
