MASANSA residents in Mkushi have given Police officer in charge at the local police post 48 hours to leave the area for allegedly fighting a junior officer.

The officer in charge is alleged to have fought with his junior officer on allegation that he was undisciplined.

The community were angered that the named officer in charge had exhibited immature behaviour and should leave because he was not fit to run the station.

Speaking in an interview with The Lusaka Sun, former Matuku ward Councillor Jairous Tembo said the named officer had brought the name of the station and home affairs ministry in into public disrepute.

Mr. Tembo said the behaviour exhibited by the officer in charge left much to be desired and needed to be disciplined.

“ We are actually disappointed as a community, were the officer in charge can resort to violence manhandling and beating his own junior officer. This is why we are saying he must leave, is only given 48hrs to leave the institution so that we can have somebody who is mature. Because he lacks maturity.” Mr. Tembo said.

Mr. Tembo further wondered how a senior officer could instill discipline in his junior officers if could fight them physically and openly.

He said if he noted that the junior officer was indiscipline,he would have found a systemic mature way to rebuke him as opposed to fighting which was unethical and unprofessional.

He said the situation has now alarmed the community and concluded that he was himself indiscipline demanding him to leave.

And when contacted for the comment, Central province police commissioner Chola Katanga who confirmed the incident said the erring officer will be disciplined.

“ We are taking disciplinary action and the officer will be removed from there,” Mr Katanga said.

Meanwhile, Police in Mkushi have detained a house wife for assaulting her husband using hoe.

Angela Kunda 35, of ltala compound was arrested after assaulting her husband Misheck Chibuye 46, of the same abode who sustained a deep cut on the forehead and was treated after obtaining police report.

Speaking in an interview, Mr. Chibuye said his wife assaulted him because of counseling his 16 year old son who was in the habit of beating up his siblings.

“ I was counselling my son around 10:00 hrs over his behaviour of beating up his siblings. So, when my wife came back home, my son reported to her that I had beaten him. She then instructed him to beat me but resisted.

“All of a sudden, my wife hit me with a hoe on my forehead and l sustained a deep cut. She is currently detained in police custody awaiting to appear in court,” Mr. Chibuye explained.
