ZNS barman nabbed for rape

POLICE in Chinsali have arrested a 28 year old Zambia National Service (ZNS) Chinsali Mess barman for allegedly raping a 28 year old woman.

Muchinga Province Police Commissioner Joel Njase confirmed the incident which he said happened on Saturday between 06:00 and 08:00 hours.

Mr Njase named the suspect as Lombe Mbalasha, a civilian member of staff at ZNS regional office.

‘‘Police received a report on Saturday at 11.20hrs from the rape victim of Senior Chief Nkula’s area of Chinsali district.  She claimed that she had been raped by Mbalasha, a civilian barman of Chinsali ZNS region office mess,’’ Mr Njase said.

Mr Njase said the incident happened after a ZNS civilian driver, Victor Sichivula took the victim to a room at  the mess where they had consensual sex until at about 05:00 hours.

‘‘Circumstances are that on Friday at about 23:00 hours Victor Sichivula a ZNS civilian staff driver, picked up the victim to the room at the mess where he hard carnal knowledge with her consent until at about 05:00hrs when he was called for duties,

‘‘He then instructed the suspect to help him dispatch the victim once she wakes up. It was at that stage when the suspect took turns on the same lady by force and threatened to beat her if she alerted anyone,” Mr Njase said.

Mr Njase said the victim complained of painful vagina and general body pains and that a medical form had been issued for examination at the local hospital.

He said the suspect was in custody and will appear in court soon.
