OVER 30 youths have set up a laundry business in Lusaka’s City Market which earns them about K500 a month.
According to one of the group members, Whiteson Mwesa, the laundry was for the low income earners who could not afford to take their outfits to ‘expensive’ laundry places.
Mr Mwesa explained that the youths were charging K3 for a shirt and K5 for a pair of trousers.
Mr Mwesa told the Sun in an interview in Lusaka that the group ordered pairs of trousers which they washed and ironed then sold to interested customers to boost their revenue base.
He said these were ready trousers which one could wear upon buying.
“What we do here is that we get trousers, which we wash and iron. We then go to sell them on the road to the public,
“We have been in this business for over a year, so far it is okay; we are breaking even. But I must admit that business has been very bad this month,” Mr Mwesa said.
He has since urged fellow youths indulging in bad vices in communities to venture into different businesses to earn some income.
“Staying just home is wasting time, youths in Zambia are facing hardships such as lack of employment so for us to avoid going into bad vices such as drinking beer, we decided to start this business to make some money,” said Mr Mwesa.
