THE Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) has congratulated Chipolopolo, the men’s national soccer team for qualifying for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations to be hosted by Ivory Coast.
On Saturday the Chipolopolo who last competed at the AFCON in 20215 slaughtered the Elephants of Ivory Coast 3-0 in a Group H fixture to seal their qualification for the AFCON which will be played in January 2024.
“On behalf of myself and the FAZ executive committee, we wish to congratulate the Chipolopolo for securing their ticket to the AFCON. It has been an undertaking achieved through hard work and commitment,” FAZ president Andrew Kamanga said.
Meanwhile, Kamanga has thanked Government for the support which inspired the Chipolopolo boys to deliver the needed results and break the jinx of failing to qualify for the continental championship after missing the last three editions.
Sports Minister Elvis Nkandu promised that Government would reward the Chipolopolo boys with over K200, 000 each for beating Ivory Coast and qualifying for the AFCON.
Kamanga said FAZ was grateful for their support which has also been extended to the Copper Queens, who are one of the teams representing the African continent at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup kicking off next month in Australia and New Zealand.
