POLICE DIFFER WITH CITIZENS

By BEATRIC MWILAMBWE

Police deputy Spokesperson Danny Mwale has disclosed that the country has not recorded any cases of abduction.

But some Lusaka resident expressed with the manner the police has handled this serious matter.

The residents said, the police need to tell the nation the truth on what is happening instead of misleading them.

One of the residents, Ernest Phiri said, Zambians are able to see what is happening, therefore, it is the duty of the police to ensure that the safety of the people is guaranteed instead of misinforming people.

He said” Nathaniel Chanda went missing and then was found dead and some body parts missing, is it that abduction. “Our children go to school far from our homes so we are scared of what is happening,” he said.

And Zelipa Moyo said it shameful that the police have ignored what is happening in the country, stating that the government should intervene to protect the people.

In an interview, police deputy Spokesperson Mr Mwale said, the claims by the members of the public concerning children abductions are mere speculations.

Mr Mwale said, the police have only recorded two cases of missing children who were later reunited with their parents, which he referred to as missing children and not child abduction.

He has since appealed to the public to treat the speculations with the contempt they deserve.

Mr Mwale has warned that people circulating lieswill be dealt with according to the law. The police deputy spokesperson says, the Zambia Police Service will not allow people to misinform the public is this can cause havoc in the country.

He said, people need to be mindful of what they do because it can have an effect on society.

“Members of the public should that there are no cases of abduction. The only cases which were recorded by police in the recent past are two, in garden Chilulu and Westwood area, and these are missing people,” he said.
