Congolese woman drowns in Kafue River
Sun REPORTER writes
A 27-year-old woman from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) on Saturday drowned in the Kafue River as she was trying to position herself to take a selfie.
The woman arrived in the country from the DRC in July, this year to visit her brother-in-law in Lusaka.
On Saturday, the woman in the company of her friend travelled to Kafue District to attend a traditional marriage ceremony (Chilanga Mulilo) at Kafue Boys Secondary School.
Police spokesperson, Esther Katongo, said Police in Kafue received a report of drowning from Alex Mwansa of Munali road in Meanwood near Chamba Valley in Lusaka that his sister-n-law, Martine Mbwaya Misakabu had drowned.
Ms Katongo said after the ceremony, Misakabu together with seven others went to Kafue River cliff for an adventure at around 13:00 hours.
She said the team went to the edge of the river for snap shooting and that it was at that point that the woman tried to take a selfie.
As she was trying to position herself, she slipped and fell in the river where she drowned.
Ms Katongo said the police in conjunction with fire brigade officers rushed to the scene and the body was retrieved and had been deposited into Kafue General Hospital mortuary.
She said an inquiry had been launched.
