DEC NABS 10 FOR DRUG TRAFFICKING

THE Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC) has arrested 10 people in Southern, Western, Muchinga, Central and Eastern Provinces for allegedly trafficking in illicit drugs.

DEC public relations officer, Mathias Kamanga who confirmed the development in a statement said the 10 suspects were arrested for trafficking in illicit drugs contrary to the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act 35 of 2021 of the Laws of Zambia.

Mr Kamanga said in Southern Province, the Commission arrested Rodney Maseka, a male aged 23 of Zambia Compound in Choma District for trafficking in four sachets of heroin and 13.8 Grams of loose cannabis.

He said in Western Province, the commission arrested three drug suppliers.

“The suspects are identified as Alex Chitoma, a male aged 39, Kabutu Mubita, a female aged 39 and Ndala Kapanga, a male aged 42, all from Limulunga Shanty Compound in Mongu, were arrested in separate incidents for trafficking in 35 Kilograms, 3.2 Kilograms and 700 Grams of loose cannabis respectively,” he said.

In Central Province, he said, the DEC arrested Nagai Kunda, a female aged 56 of Veso Farms in Mkushi for trafficking in 4.19 Kilograms of loose cannabis that was concealed in two green plastic bags.

He explained that in a separate incident, a suspect identified as Daniel Siluvwe, a male aged 36 of Mumembe Farms in Mkushi was arrested for trafficking in 3.73 Kilograms of loose cannabis.

He added that In Muchinga Province, the Commission arrested Freestone Chola, a male aged 22, of Supani Village in Lavushimanda District for trafficking in 5.6 Kilograms of cannabis that was wrapped in a cloth packed in a red and white sack.

“In a separate incident, a suspect identified as Violet Ngoma, a female aged 32, of Kabanda Village of Chama District was arrested for trafficking in 1.2 Kilograms of loose cannabis that was wrapped in a transparent plastic bag in her bedroom,” he said.

Meanwhile, Mr Kamanga said the commission in Eastern Province has arrested and jointly charged Yona Mainza, a male aged 27 of East Rise in Chipata District and Edward Phiri, A male aged 30 of Chilindila Village in Chipangali District for trafficking in 2.8 Kilograms of loose cannabis.

He said the two were arrested in East Rise after they were found with the cannabis.

Mr Kamanga said the suspects were currently in police custody and yet to appear in court.
