1600 Targeted in Kalumbila under Food security Pack

Kalumbila District target 1,600 under FSP
Kalumbila District Community Development officer Ritah Makupa has disclosed that 1,600 beneficiaries are targeted to receive farming inputs under this year’s Food Security Pack (FSP) programme.
Ms Makupa stated that the department has this year increased the number of beneficiaries from 300 to 1,600 covering the entire Kalumbila district.
She said this during the FSP committee meeting and explained that the programme is being implemented in five wards of the district.
“The number of beneficiaries this year has increased from 300 beneficiaries to 1,600 beneficiaries, the increase translates to increased inputs for the district under the FSP and we have been advised to cover the whole district,” she said.
She noted that due to the increase in beneficiaries, the programme will be rolled out to the remaining seven wards under the 2021/2022 FSP.
“We will prioritise areas where there are agricultural officers, especially near where they reside so that they can assist the beneficiaries with information on the best agricultural practices,” Ms Makupa said.
Ms Makupa however bemoaned the shortage of storage facilities for inputs which has been caused by the increase in the number of beneficiaries in the district.
“We are still struggling with storage…it is now a bigger challenge as the number of beneficiaries has now increased,” she said- ZANIS
