Juveniles languish in custody over stock theft charges

Two juveniles have continued to appear before the Choma Magistrates Court in the matter they are facing five counts of allegedly stealing 26 herds of Cattle valued at more than K100, 000. In this matter, the two juveniles are jointly charged for Stock Theft with four other adults contrary to the Laws of Zambia.

Allegations in the five counts collectively are that the two minors, jointly and whilst acting with Alex Mweemba , 45, Innocent Ngandu ,38, a Community Health Worker, Kissinger Kwebenge ,42, and Erthon Munyati ,42, all of Mapanza area in Choma stole 26 herds of cattle from different farmers all valued at K101, 000.

The thefts are said to have occurred in the month of November 2020 in Choma district of Southern Province. When the matter came up for defense before Court after the six were found with cases to answer earlier, Resident Magistrate Ethel Phiri adjourned the matter to April 6, 2021 for defense after informing the accused person’s that the court in conduct of their matter was unavailable. The juveniles were remanded in custody while the other four adults had their police bonds extended
