A Lusaka man has been jailed three months for trafficking in marijuana.

Appearing at the Lusaka magistrates court before magistrate Thabita Mulenga was Isaac Mukulana 26 of Chipata and a male Juvenile also of the same area.

Facts before the court were that the Drug enforcement Commission (DEC) officers received information that there were two male persons suspected to be dealing in psychotropic substances namely marijuana.

The officers proceeded to the said house where Mukulana and the boy were living.

The officers introduced themselves and searched the house.

The officers found  a small plastic containing marijuana on the floor in the house.

Mukulana and the boy admitted ownership of the drugs.

Magistrate: what was marijuana doing in your house?

Mukulana: we were smoking.

Mukulana asked for leniency from the court stating that he is a first offender and admitted the charge without wasting the courts time.

The boy pleaded for mercy saying he was sorry and did not know that if was  an offence to have possession of marijuana without lawful authority.

Magistrate Mulenga  warned the boy to not involve himself in dealings of marijuana otherwise next time he might not be a juvenile and may end up in jail.

She said Mukulana was fully aware that trafficking in psychotropic substances is unlawful and therefore deserved to be punished to deter others.

The court jailed Mukulana three months imprisonment with hard labor and ordered that the boy go for rehabilitation at the Drug Enforcement Commission for a period they will deem fit.
