THE Zambia Under-17 Women’s side is has maintained a 100% win record at the on-going 2020 COSAFA Girls Championship after edging Tanzania 2-1 in a tight contest of match day 2 played at The Oval Stadium in Port Elizabeth.

Copper Princesses mesmerizing forward Cindy Banda who scored the winner in the previous match against South Africa yet again proved her worth by scoring the first goal of the match as the Copper Princesses led the Young Twiga Stars 1-nil in a mouth-watering encounter in what was termed as the battle to the top position.
Coach Kaluba Kangwa who only made one change to his starting line up resting Melisa Mataba made an early substitution taking off Margaret Chulu who was the scorer of the first goal against South Africa and her place was taken up by Beauty Zulu from Luyando Foundation, it was a tactical substitution because a striker was out for a Midfielder to try and whither the storm in the middle of the park because Tanzania looked dangerous going forward with counter-attacks.
However, Banda’s goal was the difference in the first half as Zambia who had better ball possession commanded a 1-nil lead.
The second half started from where the first ended from and before Tanzania organized themselves, Tisilile Lungu scored just less than 5 minutes inside the second to take Zambia’s lead to 2-nil.
Tanzania came back more live in the second half hitting the crossbar twice but Zambia made sure they closed them downplaying their lungs out in the second stanza.
Tanzania scored their consolation goal through their dangerous player Aisha Masaka 5 minutes to stoppage time but that wasn’t good enough as Zambia managed to hold their nerves with another hard-fought 2-1 victory which has sent them top of the pool standings with 6 points from 2 games with 4 goals scored and only conceded twice.
The Copper Princesses’ next assignment is on Tuesday at Oval Stadium against Comoros Island whom they walloped 15 – 0 in the 2019 COSAFA edition in Mauritius.
