Be professional – media urged

MINISTRY of Information and Broadcasting Services Permanent Secretary, Amos Malupenga has urged Journalists in the country to protect their Profession from invasion by quacks.

Mr Malupenga said the media in the country is being tested every day in terms of ethical reporting and advised Journalist to be resilient and protect the Profession from perishing.

The Permanent Secretary said this in Solwezi yesterdat, when he inspected the local community radio stations and a private Television station.

“Let us protect our Profession from people masquerading as journalists because if our Profession perish we will have ourselves to blame,” he advised.

Mr Malupenga said Journalists must be responsible in their reporting and must not by all cost set the country on fire through irresponsible behaviour.

“I am warning those misconducting themselves who think since they are broadcasting in cyber space they cannot be dealt with for their unethical reporting that the law will still catchup with them. Very soon the culprits will reach a dead end,” He warned.

“The media industry is ever expanding and it will only shrink with those unprofessional misconduct,” he said.

And Northwest Television, Station Manager, Dominion Kaumba said unethical reporting that has currently saturated the media industry in the country is of great concern as an institution and pledged to uphold media ethics in their operations.

Mr Kaumba also appealed to the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting Services and the Independent Broadcasting Authority (IBA) to consider expand transmission radius to all districts of North-Western Province.
