Ward councillor sues youth over wheelbarrow

A COUNCILLOR has dragged an unemployed youth to the Choma Magistrates on allegations that he stole a wheelbarrow from him.

In this matter Kelvin Mwaanga, who is Kulundana Ward Councillor, has accused Febbo Mwiinde of stealing his Wheelbarrow valued at more than K600.

Allegations are that Mwiinde who is facing two counts of Theft and Assault, on 15 May 2020 stole 1 wheelbarrow valued at K650 the property of Kelvin Mwaanga.

In the second Count Mwiinde is accused of assaulting AutinaHamambo and thereby occasioning her actual bodily harm.

When he appeared for plea before Resident Magistrate Ethel Phiri, the accused person distanced himself from the allegations levelled against him.

Court: Have you understood the charge read to you in count one?

Mwiinde: Yes

Court: Do you admit or deny?

Mwiinde: I did not steal the Wheelbarrow, I requested for it.

Magistrate Phiri recorded pleas of not guilty in respect to both counts and adjourned the matter to a later date after Public Prosecutor Catherine Sakala made the application.

The matter will come up on 15th July 2020 for trial.

Mwiinde was remanded in custody.
