2 die on spot in Kapiri Mposhi fatal road accident

TWO people have died on the spot in a road traffic accident along the Kapiri Mposhi-Mkushi Road in Kapiri Mposhi.

The accident which happened around 07:20 hours yesterday involved a Toyota Grand Hiace registration number AIJ 7137 which was being driven by Nawa Sipalo, 37, and a Zhontong passenger Bus registration number AIB 7263 belonging to Scorpion Bus Transport, aboard with 65 passengers, driven by Cephus Chitambala, 40.

Kapiri Mposhi District Commissioner Smart Mwila who rushed to the scene of the accident which happened near Mpula area has confirmed the incident to ZANIS. 

Mr Mwila has identified the deceased as Nawa Sipalo the driver of the Toyota Grand Hiace and his passenger Bishop Misheck Kandele, 52. 

Mr Mwila said the accident happened after the driver of the Toyota Grand Hiace negligently reversed onto the highway and in the process was hit by the oncoming Scorpion Bus which was within reach travelling from Lusaka to Northern Province. 

He said both occupants of the Toyota Grand Hiace died on the spot while all occupants on the bus escaped unhurt.

The Toyota vehicle was extensively damaged while the Scorpion Bus had its front part damaged.

The bodies of the deceased have been deposited at Kapiri District Hospital Mortuary.
