KANYAMA RESIDENTS LIVING IN FEAR OF JUNKIES

MATHEWS NDANDULA writes

THE current load management and extended power outage has contributed to a rise in attacks and a loss of life within Kanyama constituency says area councillor for Kanyama Ward 10 Brighton Bilumba.

In an interview with The Sun, the councillor stated that people are living in fear of being attacked by youth, whose motives are not known.Theyouths range in the age of 15 to 25 and have formed groups commonly called Junkies.

“It hasn’t been easy in Kanyama for the last few weeks. Our boys, the so called Junkie Boys, have taken a centre stage. Forming groups, with a motive that we are yet to understand.

Yes, they have gangs in known areas like Yellow shop, Villa Park and Garden House. And so far as an area councillor, I have had talks with the men and women in uniform, so that we see how best we can get in and manage these boys.

“All in all, I have been given an assurance by the police that they will do everything possible in bringing the perpetrators to book.

We cannot afford to live in a situation where our boys becomesungovernable. So my appeal is to the parents, because we realise these boys are from our homes, we live with them please kindly advise them the law will catch up with them because they are now out of hand enough is enough,” Bilumba said.

The councillor has since assured the residents in his ward that he will not allow them being killed or attacked by those they call their children.
