Toddler drowns in bucket

PETER MALASHA writes

A ONE-YEAR and four months old girl has drowned in a bucket full of water in Mkushi farm bloc.

Central province police commissioner, Chola Katanga, confirmed the drowning in an interview with The Sun.

Mr Katanga identified the girl as Grace Mwape of Brimagoba farm compound in Mkushi farm bloc and that the drowning occurred on Monday around 10:00 hours.

The toddler was at home playing around the house, while the mother was performing daily chores when the incident happened.

Mr Katanga said after retrieving the girl from the bucket, she was rushed to Chibefwe clinic where she was pronounced dead upon arrival.

“Police inspected the body and found that it had no physical injuries and suspect no foul play,” Mr Katanga added.

The body has since been deposited in Mkushi District Hospital mortuary awaiting burial.

“Young children should not be exposed to hazardous situations such as buckets full of water and when there is no one to look after them, because they will jump into that and might drown,” he said.
