‘Demons led me to steal’

A 24-YEAR-OLD man will spend a month behind bars for grabbing a phone and running away with it, claiming demons had entered him.

In this matter Active Lumuuno stood charged with Theft contrary to section 272 of Chapter 87 of the Penal Code of the Laws of Zambia.

Particulars of the offence are that Lumuuno stole a Cell Phone valued at K200 the property of Linda Chali.

The theft happened on 12 May, 2020 in Choma district of Southern Province.

When he appeared for plea before Senior Resident Magistrate IdahMupemo in the Choma Subordinate Court, he without coercion admitted the charge.

Court: Do you understand the charge read to you?

Lumuuno: Yes

Court: How do you plead?

Lumuuno: I admit

Court: Did you take the Phone worth K200

Lumuuno: Yes

Court: Did you have any lawful justification?

Lumuuno: No

Court: Where was it?

Lumuuno: There was a girl who gave me after i asked to call my relative. I then mistakenly went with it after she forgot to get it back. The following morning neighbourhood watchmen came to apprehend me despite telling them what transpired.

Court: According to you, you just forgot?

Lumuuno: A spirit of Satan entered me and I went with it.

Court: So you stole?

Lumuuno: Yes.

Court: I record a plea of guilty.
