Mindolo North in water blues

SANFROSSA MANYINDA writes

SOME residents of Mindolo North Township in Kitwe have complained that they have not had running water for some days now.

The residents complained to The Sun that they rarely had water on their taps, making it difficult for them to manage their daily activities.

One of the residents who sought anonymity wondered how they could win the fight against the corona virus when they did not have an essential commodity like water.

“They tell us that coronavirus can be stopped by ensuring that we wash our hands frequently and keep our environments clean all the time, but how do we maintain such kind of cleanliness if we do not have running water on our taps?” she questioned.

She said that they had been buying water from those that had wells in the area, a situation she said should not be allowed to continue.

Other residents expressed similar sentiments, but did not wat to me identified, fearing Nkana Water and Sanitation Company (NWSC) officials would victimise them.

They insisted that the water utility firm must heed the Government directive to ensure uninterrupted water supply during the outbreak of the covid-19.

But NWSC Public Relations Officer, Agnes Simwinga, was shocked to learn that the people in the area were not supplied with the commodity for many days.

“We cannot refuse completely because some customers have got isolated problems due to vandalism and illegal connections and we suspect that they could be the ones complaining.

ā€œWe are surprised that there is such a complaint because we have not been disconnecting water at the moment,” Ms Simwinga said.

Ms Simwinga, however, assured the residents that her office would together with the technical team investigate the matter.
