...Witchcraft-accused mom drags daughters to court

MARY PHIRI writes

A 52-year-old woman Chipulukusu township in Ndola has dragged her two daughters to court for accusing her of practising witchcraft and causing the death of their siblings.

In this matter Regina Mulenga sued her two daughters Sarah Kunda 32 and Annette Kunda 33 for accusing her of being a witch as this has caused her so much emotional pain in her life.

Mulenga told the Chipulukusu local court that after the burial of her son on January 25, 2018 the two daughters accused her of being behind the death of her children.

She said they told her they would kill and burn her since she was a witch and was responsible for the death of their nine siblings.

She added that she did not know why her nine children kept on dying and only left with three.

In their defence, the two said they could not defame her character but that whenever they went for prayers they were told that something had been planted in the house.

Witness, Emmanuel Kunda, also a son of the complainant, said the two women went to a witch doctor who told them that their mother was responsible for the death of their siblings.

He said the witch doctor later went to their home and searched the house and found charms in their mother’s room, a clay pot which had traditional beads and some fetish inside and all this belonged to their mother.

Kunda added that in 2014 his mother was sued by their niece because she was appearing and chasing her in her dreams but the court advised them to go and pray.

“My two sisters went for prayers to a pastor again who later told them that there is something in the house which had been planted and that it will eat all the children. We have tried different churches and they told us the same thing,” he said.

In judgment, presiding magistrate Nsama Nsofu reconciled the family and advised them to seek prayers.

The court further advised them to avoid going to witch doctors but rather seek God as he was the solution.
