TV thief jailed

A LUSAKA man has been jailed nine months suspended for 24 months for stealing a television.

Appearing before magistrates Ruth Kapulo was Lawrence Banda accused of breaking into the house of Sylvester Mulenga on April 18.

Facts were that Sylvester Mulenga went to town and while there he received a call from one his tenants informing him that a man was caught stealing a television from his house.

Banda was apprehended and taken to Chazanga police post and the television worth K3,500 was recovered.

Banda pleaded for mercy saying he is an orphan and lives with his grandmother.

He said what he did was wrong and will never break into a house again because he has learned a lesson.

Magistrate Kapulo told Banda to take care of himself because if he commits a similar offence within 24 months, he will serve nine months in jail.
