Isoka suicide ends in arrest

LINDA SOKO TEMBO writes

A 22-YEAR-OLD woman of Isoka District has been apprehended by the police for attempting to commit suicide, Muchinga Police Commissioner Joel Njase has said.

Mr Njase said that the incident happened on 12 April around 14:00hrs when police officers in the District received a report that Anna Nakaonga 22 of Ntipo Village, Chief Kafwimbi had allegedly committed suicide by throwing herself into a disused water well.

In an interview, Mr Njase said that when the officers rushed to the well, where the incident was reported to have taken place, they found two suicide notes written by Ms Nakaonga.

The well is about 15 meters deep and located about 500 meters away from the victim’s house.

“The contents on the Suicide Note are written in Namwanga, translated in English as follows; ‘My names are Anna, I have gone to throw myself into the water well. I will miss all of you my brothers and sisters, stay well’”.

“The second suicide note which was found at the water well read as follows, “NDIMUCHIFULA MAMA, ANENE NE ANNA NAKAONGA” translated in English it means ’It is me Anna, I have thrown myself in the water well’”, he said.

Mr Njase said that the officers tried to search for the body in the well but they did not find it.

While, still in the area the officers were able to find Ms Nakaonga after information reached them that she was hiding at a nearby bush.

He said the police apprehended her as she may have intentions to take her life and she needed counselling.

Meanwhile, Mr Njase said that Ms Nakaonga would be charged with conduct likely to cause the breach of the peace and the two suicide notes had been kept by the police as exhibits.
