CHILULU Compound residents, in Lusaka, on Saturday woke up to a rude shock when they discovered a foetus dumped in the main ‘Bombay drainage’ along Manchinchi Road.
The faetus was discovered around 09:00 hours and the matter was reported to Emmasdale Police Station.
Mervis Chama, a resident in the area, expressed disappointment with the incident and appealed to the police to thoroughly investigate the matter and bring the culprit to book.
She wondered why some women should deliberately kill babies when other people were struggling to have children.
She advised women to avoid falling pregnant if there were not ready to have children.
And Zambia police spokesperson Esther Katongo confirmed the incident in a telephone interview which was reported to police by a Chaisa resident.
“Report of suspected abortion, this occurred on Oct.5 at 0900hours, along Manchinchi Road, in which a member of the public, aged 70 years, of Chaisa Compound, reported that he found a dumped foetus in the Bombay drainage,” she said.
“The scene was visited and a foetus was taken to University Teaching University (UTH) mortuary and investigations have been instituted,” he said.
