A JEALOUS man of Lusaka’s George Township identified as Prince Mutowa has murdered his 27 years old wife by hitting her with a pounding stick.
Police spokesperson Esther Katongo told the Sun in a statement that Mutowa,40 beat up his wife Maureen Tembo to death for sleeping out.
Ms Katongo said the incident happened between 23.00 hours and 01.41 hours on Tuesday.
She said Tembo sustained head injuries from the poundings and died on the spot.
The matter was reported to Matero police by a member of public and when Police officers went to the scene, they found an electric cable and a pounding stick that could have been used in the act.
“It is alleged that Mutowa beat up the wife after he accused her of not spending nights home. Tembo sustained head injuries and died on the spot,” Ms Katongo said.
She said the body of Tembo was deposited in UTH mortuary awaiting postmortem, while Mutowa is in police custody.
Meanwhile, Ms Katongo said in another development, a three year old male juvenile identified as Maybin Chilambwe of Kalimwengo village, Chief Kalasa Lukangaba of Mansa District drowned in Mwan’guni stream.
She said this happened on September 4, at about 14:00 hours at Mwan’guni stream in Mansa District.
“Relatives suspect no foul play. They were advised to bury the body and mark the grave,” she said.
