23 GOLD DIGGERS NABBED

TWENTY THREE gold hunters of Mwinilunga have been arrested and charged for idle and disorderly conduct for being found at Kasenseli gold site, provincial police commissioner police Hudson Namachila has confirmed..

Mr Namachila said the suspects arrested at the weekend included 15 women and that 17 were released after paying the admission of guilty fee.

“I can confirm that a  total of 23 people were arrested at Kasenseli gold site which included 15 women. They were all charged for idle and disorderly conduct and out of these 17 have been released after paying admission of guilty fees.

“The other five are still in detention. I am urging members of the public  not to dare the police because we won’t allow anyone in that area to cause degeneration of security. That gold site is not a public place but a restricted area governed by laws,” he said

Mr Namachila said that a new riot squad of 50 mobile unit officers had been deployed at the site to work with the local regular police contingent which was already patrolling the area 24 hours daily.

Meanwhile police have  recorded a fatal road traffic accident around Sotec area on Kansanshi Road in Solwezi which  claimed the life of Mr Anthony Malambo, 30 of Stadium area on Tuesday.

Mr Namachila said Patrick aged 30 of Wisdom compound while driving a Tata bus,  registration number ACZ 3285 property of BEM around 17:30 hours tried to overtake the said cyclist but in turn the rear right side tyre of the bus ran him over.

“The accident happened when the bus was moving from north to south and when it reached the curve at Sotec area, it wanted to overtake the cyclist but in the process the rear right side tyre of the bus ran over the cyclist.

“He sustained a cut on the chest and was bleeding from the nose. The victim died on the way to the hospital. As of now the body is deposited in Solwezi General Hospital mortuary,” added the commissioner.

“The driver has been charged for causing death by dangerous driving,” he said.
