THE newly structured FAZ National Division One League last weekend opened its fixtures for the inaugural season which will see 18 teams competing for nationwide second tier league.
The inaugural games saw 2019 Division One Zone One champions National Assembly starting on a high by beating Zambeef two-nil in Lusaka.
Assembly who missed out on promotion by a whisker after being beaten by KYSA in the promotional match last month, will be hoping to contend for promotion this season.
Another title chasing side, Kafue Celtic started made their intentions known when they beat Super League demoted side Circuit City two-nil in their week one encounter.
Celtic are looking to cement their tile aspirations in the second tier competition and a win over City boosts their aspirations.
On the other hand a loss for City, who only got demoted at the end of their season, is a bad start for the side who are looking to bounce back to the elite league.
Former Super League sides Kitwe United and Prison Leopards recorded draws in their debut season in the National Division One League while there was a win for Muza, who also are a demoted Super League side.
Muza beat fellow Southern Province based side Sinazongwe United one-nil away at Maamba’s Kanzinzi Stadium.
Central Province representatives Mumbwa Medics and Chindwin Centries lost their opening games one-nil and four-two, respectively.
Mumbwa lost to Kafue-based Young Eagles while Chindwin lost to Ndola’s Independent.
