CHIEF Muyombe of the Tumbuka people of Mafinga district has appealed to government to facilitate issuance of national registration cards (NRCs) to his subjects.
Speaking during Vinkhanimba traditional ceremony on Saturday, Chief Muyombe said many people in his chiefdom did not have NRCs due to long distances they were required to cover to access the documents.
Chief Muyombe said many people in his chiefdom have never had chance to get NRCs since 1999, adding that it was worrying that grown up people as old as 30 years were without NRCs.
āI would like to appeal to government through the Ministry of Home Affairs to ensure that National Registration services are brought closer to the people to allow them acquire NRCs,
āIt is therefore my plea that we should let all that have attained the required age for NRCs be captured because leaving them out would mean depriving them of their fundamental rights as citizens,” Chief Muyombe said.
And Chief Muyombe expressed concern over lack of access to safe and clean drinking water in his chiefdom.
He appealed to government to help sink more boreholes and have Kalanga Water project completed which he said could provide piped safe drinking water for the people Mafinga district
āThe population of Muyombe Chiefdom is growing every day but we have a worrisome issue is lack of safe and clean drinking water,ā he said
Meanwhile Chief Muyombe has commended government for the massive infrastructure development the area has recorded.
He cited the construction of ultra-modern Muyombe hospital whose phase 1 has been completed.
This yearās Vinkhanimba traditional ceremony was officiated by Muchinga Province Minister Malozo Sichone and was attended by five other Chiefs from Zambia and neighbouring Malawi.
