ABOUT 23 unclaimed bodies have been buried at Chingwere Cemetery by the Lusaka City Council (LCC), says public relations manager George Sichimba.

Mr Sichimba said the burial that took place last Friday, was conducted following the expiry of the 14 days’ notice issued by the council.

He said the local authority received a request from the University Teaching Hospital (UTH) last month to bury 23 unclaimed bodies which had been lying in mortuary for a long time.

Mr Sichimba said, LCC put up a public notice in the press about its intention to bury the bodies in accordance with the law.

He said that was the third time this year that the council was burying unclaimed bodies, bringing the total to 68.
