THE media in Northern Province has been called on to be proactive in reporting malaria related issues, provincial health director Gideon Zulu has said
Dr Zulu said that the media was a key stakeholder in achieving government’s target of ending malaria by 2021.
He said that was is why the Ministry of Health through the national malaria control center had decided to engage the media to help it implement programmes and projects aimed at combating the disease.
He said the media could help create a better understanding among ordinary people on government’s agenda towards elimination of the disease through their news coverage.
Dr. Zulu said this in a speech read for him by the Provincial Clinical Care specialist Dr. James Nyirenda at the Malaria workshop in Kasama.
He has reiterated the importance of media personnel in the fight against malaria, saying Ministry of Health wanted full involvement of media to amplify the programmes and messages on the disease.
Meanwhile, Dr. Zulu has also expressed concern on the continued misuse of insecticide treated mosquito nets (ITNs) among beneficiaries in rural communities.
And speaking on behalf of participants Mr Patrick Kabwe expressed gratitude to ministry for the engagement and called for more of such interactions-ZANIS
