Two in court for illegal possession of Leopard skin

TWO senior citizens have appeared in the Choma Magistrates Court for illegal possession of prescribed trophy.

This is in a matter where Dennis Semani, 52, a bricklayer and Christopher Kakazi, 63, a farmer, both of Choma District, are accused of possessing a Leopard skin, contrary to the Zambia Wildlife and National Parks Act of the Laws of Zambia.

Particulars of the offence are that on July 17, 2019 in Choma, Semani and Kakazi, whilst acting together, where found in possession of 1 Leopard skin without a certificate for them.

When the matter came up for plea, before Resident Magistrate Ethel Phiri, both accused persons denied the allegations, compelling the Court to enter pleas of not guilty respectively.

Magistrate Phiri granted the duo K10, 000 bail each in their own recognizance with two working sureties in the like sum, in their own cognisance.

The matter would come up on August 1 2019 for commencement of trial.
