RECENTLY, there was a report of two fishermen being killed by a hippo in Kalabo district.
It was reported that the duo met their fate around Sifuluti area near the Luanginga-Zambezi River confluence in separate attack incidents.
It is sad that human life was lost in this continued wildlife/human conflicts which appear to have become the order of the day especially for people living near rivers, such as Zambezi, Luapula, Luangwa and Kafue to mention but a few.
What however has made me write this letter is the suggestion to hunt down this hippo.
Why for God’s sake are you going to kill a hippo with calves?
Sensitize the people that hippos are breeding in these areas to avoid the places.
Hippos can’t live out of the water because it is there habitat!
People are going round sharks in developed countries and we have the same brains if not better.
Save Hippos and humans please! Don’t kill them.
