THE Boma Local Court has ordered a photographer of Makeni to pay K4, 000 he owed a producer after using his cameras.
This was in a case in which Kelvin Mulenga sued Lewis Chilongo to court after he took too long to pay him for his equipment he used.
Mulenga told senior local court magistrate Silvia Kabunda that he knew Chilongo because they worked in the same industry.
“In April this year he called me because he wanted to hire my cameras. He had to pay K4, 000 for hiring so we agreed to meet in Pemba,
“He even told me he would provide transport and pay for the cameras by cheque. When we met he said the cheque wasn’t ready but he would deposit it later in the week but did not do so,” Mulenga said.
He told the court that to date, Chilongo has not paid and has been giving him different stories about the money.
“I’ve travelled twice and he still hasn’t paid me so on top of the K4, 000 I want him to refund me the transport money I used,” Mulenga said.
In defence Chilongo admitted the allegations and told the court that everything Mulenga said was true.
“When I spoke to the agency that hired me, they said there was no need of writing the cheque. Everything was handed over to a client who was supposed to pay in cash but still hasn’t paid,
“Kelvin knows the client we are dealing with because we are in the same industry. I even used to send him screen shots of what the client was saying. To our surprise, he still hasn’t paid,” Chilongo said.
He however told the court that the money was expected to be paid in the next few days.
