Just pay, court orders debtor

RABECCA BANDA writes

THE Chilenje Local Court has a ordered a Lusaka man to pay K1,700 he is owing another person.

Oblin Sase, 29, of Arrakan Barracks was sued by Mainess Nyirongo, 25, of the same area.

Nyirongo said a friend introduced Sase to him in October last year.

“He wanted to borrow K3,000 from me but I refused.  I told him I only had K1,500,” she said.

Nyirongo said Sase got the K1,500 and promised to return it in December with interest.

“I made him sign an agreement in case we had disputes,” she said.

“December month-end came and he did not pay the money. He stopped picking my calls. When I got through to him he said (nkongole sibamanga),” she said.

“In total he was owing me K2,200, interest included. He paid a K500 in February, 2019. It wasn’t kaloba; he said himself that he would add interest. I want him to return my K1,700. The money has stayed for a long time,” Nyirongo said.

The two were appearing before senior local court magistrate Ackim Phiri sitting with senior local court magistrate Harriet Mbewe.

Mbewe said he got the K1,500 from Nyirongo’s mother and that she (Nyirongo ) was only a witness.

“Her mother is like a parent to me. She has helped me so many time. Nyirongo came to my house in December last year and I asked her to give me time to look for money,” he said.

“I don’t have sufficient funds to pay the whole amount right now. I can pay her in August,” Mbewe said.

The court ordered Nyirongo to pay the money in two installments of K750 effective August.
