A LUSAKA man who was sued by his father-in-law has been ordered by the Matero Local Court to pay K13,000 for dowry.
Never Busho, 69, sued Costen Tembo, 31, for payment of dowry.
Busho told magistrate Pauline Newa that Tembo married his daughter in 2012 but had not finished paying dowry.
“Tembo is my son-in-law. He married my daughter and only paid a K2,000 from what we charged him. I brought him here because of the duration that has passed.
“After my wife died he said he would make the payment on December 7, but he has not paid until date. I want him to give me a K13,000 because prices of cows have now gone up,” Busho said.
In defence Tembo promised the court that he would make the payments in two weeks’ time.
“I will start by giving him K3,000 on June 21,” he said.
The court upheld the claim of K13,000 effective June 21.
