MUTINTA MULAYE writes

A WOMAN of Lusaka’s  Ibex  Hill has divorced her husband of 9 years in the Boma Local Court for unfaithfulness and other disputes in the marriage.

Hilda Bulundo, 47, told Senior Local Senior Local Court Magistrate Silvia Kabunda that Peter Chibangu of Garden married her in 2011 and problems in their marriage started in 2017 when he started seeing another woman.

Bulundo told the court that her husband stopped going home from work and stopped providing for the family but would only leave money for rentals.

“One day when we were together in bed, he showed me a picture on his phone of him and a lady and they were both naked. That’s what even made me leave home,” Bulundo said.

She said whenever her family tried to call for a meeting with her husband’s relatives, he would always showed up alone.

“I wanted to leave home so I first went to Victim Support Unit but they told me I couldn’t get any property from home before coming to court. The time I went home with my relatives to get some clothes I needed, I found my husband had already packed my clothes,” she said.

She also told the court that after three days, her husband took all their property to his girlfriend’s house.

“In 2015, we bought a plot. I gave him K7, 000 to buy blocks because we decided to start building. He later told me Trade Kings had gotten back the plot and up to today he tells me they have not yet refunded him,” Bulundo said.

She also said in 2018 after her husband lost his mother, he refused her to attend the funeral and even threatened to stay home if she dared to attend.

In defence Chibangu then told the court that he never had any serious problems in his marriage which only started recently when his children came home to visit.

“My wife makes a budget that surpasses my salary which is affecting my school-going children,” he said.

The court found that there were misunderstandings, unreasonable behavior and unfaithfulness and crookedness from Chibangu.

Divorce was granted and Magistrate Kabunda ordered Chibangu to compensate Bulundo with K12, 000.
