Chanda Mbao tops music charts in SA

Fresh from being recognized and profiled by the famed Red Bull Music platform, Zambia’s award-winning Hip-Hop artist Chanda Mbao last week hit the number one spot on South African radio Station Trans Africa Radio.

The station is well-known for being the first satellite and digital radio station in Africa broadcasting across formats in South Africa and across the whole continent.

Chanda’s achievement came via his latest single called ‘Money Gang’ which features Malawian-born super talent Gemini Major. The song took the number one spot over major African hits by artistes including Yemi Alade & Rick Ross, Burna Boy, Nasty C and Sjava.

This becomes Chanda Mbao’s first international radio hit after incredible success on local Zambian radio, where it previously held the number one spot of various top radio stations across the country for several weeks. Recently, ‘Money Gang’ topped the charts on radio stations including Radio Phoenix, Pan African Radio, Hot FM, Power FM and Metro FM.

What does Chanda say about this success and collaboration?

“Working with Gemini Major was amazing. He is a brilliant creative and is incredibly multi-talented. Not only did he produce the record, he also executed an effortlessly impressive feature,” he says.

“God provided a window of opportunity through mutual connections and I made sure to seize it. You never know when these opportunities come again.”

Mbao added that the continent-wide success of the original single ‘Wave’ on Trace Africa and Trace Urban’s Top 10 countdowns played a significant part in making him recognizable to his would-be collaborators.

As Chanda gears up to launch the video for the song, it is clear that not only is Zambia watching but the continent as well.
