Horizon Schools Alumni network

By Muuka Muzyamba

Saturday the 9th of November marked a turning point in the setting up of a close knit network of former pupils of Horizon Secondary School. The event was hosted at the ‘White Palace’’ the Istanbul Restaurant and events venue in Kabulonga.

The host for the evening was none other than the ever cheerful Guidance and Counseling teacher Mr.Sevim Fatih. To grace the occasion as guest of honor was the immensely travelled Diplomat, and long serving former Secretary to the Cabinet and Ambassador, Mr. Leslie Mbula. In attendance to support the formation of an active executive committee was the School Principal Mr. Gulhan and all the respective sectional head teachers and members of staff.

Former pupils from as far back as the year 2013 were also in attendance. It was good to notice that quite a sizeable number are pursuing their tertiary education in reputable universities like the Copperbelt University, Lusaka University, Texila American University and of course the University of Zambia .

Mr. Mbula kicked off the event with a thought provoking presentation. He remains a very proud retired civil servant who had served under five different Republican Presidents. After all protocols were done with, a short slide-show presentation was shown to rekindle old memories. Time for exercising the ‘right to vote” came. Up for grabs were positions of Chairperson, Secretary, vice Secretary and Treasurer. After a heated “ battle “Daniel Petimoya emerged victorious as President and Deputized by Malcom Nyirenda. Kamalondo Memory from the class of 2016 scooped the secretariat position.

The incoming committee was tasked to quickly settle down to work , which they of course did. The 2016 vibrant Head boy, Manaseh D.Sampa was later co-opted into the committee. The working committee drafted its terms of reference; VISION-to be architects of the mind that will revolutionize Zambia, Africa and the world at large. MISSION: to set the standard worldwide in terms of innovation and creativity. MOTTO: “building networks today that will last a lifetime. MAIN GOALS: to enable all members of the association to unleash their full potential. To create a solid network based on true friendship and a purpose of being our brothers keeper thereby creating an environment where like minds can interact and build one another. The new executive paid glowing tribute to school management for spearheading the formation of the Alumni association.
