HORIZON: EXCELLENCE IN EDUCATION

Annual awards and graduation ceremony

Istanbul Restaurant “The White Palace”, again played host to the sixth Grade 12 graduation and awards ceremony. The first grade 12s having been enrolled in 2013 from whom Daniel Petimoya, the current Horizon Schools Alumni President emerged.

To complement the Graduation were the Grade 9s who also walked away with Junior Secondary School leaving certificates. Hopefully we expect a grand academic performance from both grades and keep the Horizon Schools academic excellence record of being a top ten school, intact.

Honouable David Mabumba. Member of Parliament and Minister of General Education graced the event as guest of honor. Also in attendance were executive committee members of the Parents Teachers Association (P.T.A). The Alumni association was accorded an opportunity to speak to the gathering and also urged the outgoing grade 12s to be part of the ever growing network of former pupils. Grade 12 pupils, Pelama Ndumba and Silishebo Kabombo could not resist the temptation of joining the fun and did their “last dance” to spice up the entertainment.

The incoming Head Boy and Head Girl, Jayden Siamutwa and Towela Banda received the “Instruments of Power” through a ceremonial flag hand over from Yasmine Hexiamoorima and Faithwell Mabumba. The   entertainment package started with an energy sapping dance by the grade six boys.

Awards were categorized in two; Academic excellence and Good conduct. The top achievers from each class were awarded with a shield and a certificate. Temwani Ndhlovu walked away with the top achievers award from the 2018 Grade 12 class whilst Muya Zachariah beat all competitors from the Grade 9B class of 2018. From 11A Marlan Zulu, 11B Jayden Siamutwa, Muimui Mwila from 9A, Luyando Mukwato from 8A and Mubanga Chituluka from 8B.

After a slight delay which almost breached protocol, the 23-graduating grade 12s made a grand entrance emerging from a limousine to a thunderous cheer. After the entrance routine, the morning’s proceedings commenced .All went as per schedule and   invited guests; Grade 12’s teachers and parents had a memorable day and wound up the day by sharing a cake.
