Disrespectful wife divorced

Rabecca Banda writes

A Lusaka woman has been divorced in the Boma Local Court for disrespecting her husband.
Shema Mwiinga, 27, of Misisi Compound was sued by Nelson Mwanza, 35, also of the same compound.
Mwanza explained that they got married in 2013 and have one child together.
“When I married my wife, we went to stay in Siavonga where I was working and that’s where the problems started,” Mwanza said.
“My wife found me with two children and she did not like them,” Mwanza said.
“We shifted to Lusaka hoping that her behaviour towards the children would change. She continued mistreating the children,” Mwanza said.
“One instance, she lied that there was a person selling a plot worth K1, 000. I gave her the money to buy the plot,” Mwanza said.
“While working I called my wife to come and show me the plot. She came and showed me the plot which did not exist,” Mwanza said.
“My wife locks me outside the house when I return home late. Several times I had to sleep at my brother’s house as if I don’t have my own house,” Mwanza said.
“She doesn’t respect me, she shouts at me in the presence of outsiders,” Mwanza said.
The two were appearing before presiding senior local court magistrate Ng’andwe Mukuka sitting with magistrate Martha Tembo.
Mwiinga said her husband did not tell her the truth that he had two children before they got married.
“From the beginning of our marriage, we used to put money together to pay rent,” Mwanza said.
“My husband doesn’t know how to support his family. He doesn’t provide food. He used to leave a K1 for me to buy okra which he refused to eat,” Mwiinga said.
“My husband used to go for work leaving me without money for milk to give our child,” Mwiinga said.
“He used to tell me that nowadays men don’t give money to women. He has another wife but I told him that he cannot manage to maintain two homes looking at his financial status,” Mwiinga said.
“I don’t want a divorce, I want to stay with him because he is my husband,” Mwiinga said.
The court however dissolved the marriage and ordered the man to compensate his wife with K5, 000 and maintain the child with K350.
