Construction of Mukuba University on course

GOVERNMENT has completed the construction of phase one of Mukuba University in Kitwe at the total cost of K74 million.

Special assistant to the President for Project and Implementation Andrew Chellah who last week inspected works at the university, said he was happy that finally, government has delivered.

Mr Chellah who expressed happiness with the quality works done by a Chinese contractor, Hua Jiang said the project was ready for commissioning.

ā€œAs government, we are happy and excited that the project has been completed. We are also happy with the quality of works done and we would like to commend the supervisors from the Ministry of Higher education and the contractor (Hua Jiang).

ā€œThe construction of phase one of Mukuba University is completed and ready for commissioning,ā€ Mr Chellah said.

Mr Chellah reiterated that government has prioritized the completion of projects that have reached 80 percent and above.

He said government would accelerate the construction of education infrastructure and continue to establish new universities in all the provinces.

He emphasized that it was governmentā€™s intention to build a university in every province to bring the services closer to the people.

And Mukuba University acting registrar Thewa Chishete told Mr Chellah that the institution was ready to be commissioned.

ā€œActually, the initial day for commissioning of this university under phase one of the project was supposed to be last week on Tuesday, 19th March 2019. But it has changed to 3rd April 2019 to,ā€ Mr Chishete said.

He said everything was completed and that the only major thing that remained was the painting of the library.

He said the University would be training students in mathematics and sciences which were catalysts for development.

He further said the university will broaden opportunities of access to university education and help decongest UNZA and CBU.

And the  Mofya Wilson Chakulya Tool Plaza on Kitwe-Chingola Road was also near completion as works stood at over 98 percent.

Immediately when it came to power, the PF administration embarked on transforming the colleges into universities among them was Mukuba into a school of Science and Mathematics under the Copperbelt University.
