Choppies tax compliance elates ZRA

The Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA) has challenged retail shops to fully account for taxes paid by citizens by using the Electronic Fiscal Devices (EFDs) which are connected to the authority’s server.

ZRA commissioner general, Kingsley Chanda explained that connecting to the devices would avoid disputes on tax information between the authority and its clients.

Mr Chanda said this when a ZRA delegation comprising ZRA senior officials toured Choppies Supermarket in Kabulonga to check on the implementation of the system recently.

Mr Chanda has since commended Choppies for paying regulater taxes.

“Because with this, even when we come to audit you, there will be no disputes because the tax information is being rallied real time to our saver which is very commendable.

“So we just want to urge other retail shops such as Shoprite, Spar and Pick N Pay to come on board so that they also fully account for taxes from our citizens. This is very good,” Mr Chanda said.

And Choppies assistant store manager Samuel Goma said the system has been implemented in the entire organisation’s outlet to help Government maximum its revenue collection.

“We have successfully completed the integration of EFDs complying standards of ZRA. We are happy that we have been the first ones to implement this,” said Mr Goma.

ZRA is expecting an additional 5,000 electronic devices which will be rolled out to business houses countrywide to help maximise the collection of tax.

The exercise is expected to begin in May this year.
