Kariba water levels rise steadily

THE water levels in the Zambezi River Authority (ZRA)-administered, Kariba Dam has continued to rise steadily.
According to ZRA, the lake level, which should generally be decreasing at this time of the year, has continued to rise steadily.
ZRA has attributed the development to the earlier than usual rise in inflows from the immediate Kariba Lower Catchment, closing at 478.43m (20.44 per cent usable storage) on January 7, this yearcompared to 476.62m (7.77 per cent usable storage) recorded on the same date last year.
The Kariba Lake is designed to operate between levels 475.50m and 488.50m (with 0.70m freeboard) for hydropower generation.
This is contained in the weekly update the Authority has issued.
