Reckless Taxi driver heads to High Court

THE Choma Magistrates Court has committed a 30 years old Taxi Driver to the High Court to exculpate himself from allegations of causing a fatality by dangerous driving.

In this matter, Alex Litaba appeared before Court charged with Causing Death by Dangerous Driving Contrary to the Road Transport and Safety Act of the Laws of Zambia.
Allegations are Litaba on May 28 in Choma accused the death of Milner Mwiinga as his drove a Vehicle along the Great North Road in a dangerous and reckless manner with no regard for other road users.
When he appeared for explanation of the charge before Resident Magistrate Ethel Phiri, he understood the charge read to him.
Immediately after the Court explained to him that his matter is only triable before the High Court, Senior Public Prosecutor Alex Syulikwa informed Magistrate Phiri that instructions to have the accused committed to the High Court were ready.
The Court thus committed Litaba to the High Court for trial at its next session.
