Youths prodded to apply for empowerment programmes

MUFULIRA District Commissioner, Mike Manda has urged youths to take advantage of the multi-sectoral youth empowerment program to better their lives and contribute to the country’s economic development.
Speaking during this year’s Independence celebrations, Mr Manda said government wants to build a thriving economy that will enable the improvement of the quality of life for all Zambians.
He urged youths to participate in the various opportunities accorded to them to contribute to national development.
Mr Manda called on youths to avoid being used as tools of violence by politicians but instead use their time positively by taking part in the various empowerment program such as the youth internship program, entrepreneurial program, and other empowerment programs set in place by government.
He urged Zambians to uphold national unity saying Zambia has since independence maintained its reputation as a beacon of peace.
“Our independence was won at a great cost of imprisonment, punishment, and loss of life,” Mr Manda said.
“This was not an easy sacrifice and we must uphold national unity in appreciation of their sacrifice,” he added.
This year’s Independence Day is being celebrated under the theme,”24th October, 2020, Zambia at 56, One Land, One Nation, building our future proud and free.- ZANIS
