‘I just wanted to show off, I admire cops’

A 22 –YEAR-OLD youth who has always dreamed of becoming a Police Officer will instead part away with K210 for unauthorised wearing of a Police Uniform.
Emmanuel Sakala who has been appearing before the Choma Magistrates Court charged with Unauthorised Wearing of an Official Uniform told the Court that he has always admired being a Police Officer.
Particulars of the offence are that Sakala on October 10 wore a Police Official Uniform without authority.
When he appeared for Facts before Magistrate Muyambango Munukayumbwa, Public Prosecutor Dexter Kwalela stated that Sakala was apprehended by a Sergeant Simbeye who became suspicious after he saw him in a Police Official Uniform.
He said Sakala took to his heels after the officer requested that he provides his name and Man Number, fortunately alert members of the public managed to apprehend him.
At the Police Station Sakala explained that the Uniform belonged to his brother inlaw and he wore it just to show off.
In mitigation he pleaded for lenience and apologised for his ignorance.
“I don’t stay here, I just came to look for employment please forgive me. I admire being an Officer and that is why I wore the uniform,” he stated.
Magistrate Munukayumbwa fined him K210 and in default to serve 50 days simple imprisonment.
