‘Satan led me to steal’

A Man told the Choma Magistrates Court that it was Satan that led him to steal a Bicycle.

In this matter 40 years old Brian Gandula is charged with Theft contrary to the Laws of Zambia.

Particulars of the offence are that Gandula on August 10 stole 1 Bicycle valued at K1,000 the property of Hapenga Moono.

When he appeared for plea before Principal Resident Magistrate Davies Chibwili, he without coercion admitted the allegations levelled against him.

Court: Have you understood the charge?

Gandula: Yes

Court: Do you admit or deny?

Gandula? I admit.

Court: Is it true that on 10th August you took the complainant’s Bicycle?

Gandula: Yes.

Court: Did he allow you to take the Bicycle?

Gandula: No

Court: Did he owe you any money? 

Gandula: No.

Court: Why did you take his Bicycle?

Gandula: It was just Satan who entered me.

Court: For what purpose did you take the Bicycle?

Gandula: I wanted to be using it to carry firewood.

Court: I record a plea of guilty.

After entering a plea of guilty, the matter was adjourned to August 18 for Facts after state prosecutor Alex Syulikwa made the application.

Gandula was remanded in custody.
